Chiltern BMX Track & Skate Park - A Chiltern Lions Club Youth 4 Youth Project
This project commenced in September 2006.  Prior to this the Lions Club had called for public meetings to discuss a community project.  Several committed community members had already formed a group called Youth 4 Youth and their aim was to raise funds for a Skateboard Park.  Both groups combined and decided to not only raise funds for a Skateboard Park, but to also include a BMX Track. Since September 2006 we have had many meetings with the local youth, Indigo Shire and other interested people to obtain support, information and to plan the projects.

BMX Tracks

The Indigo Shire supplied $5,000 to assist in the construction of the Tracks.  Adam Carey, a talented BMX racer and track designer, drew up plans for three tracks, local resident Tony Brown provided the equipment and manpower for the construction and retired local doctor, Graeme Banks, provided a large portion of the soil to build the following tracks:

Pump Track - A small track suitable for all riders
BSX Track - An “S” shaped racetrack suitable for two experienced riders at a time, with many jumps
BMX Trails - A series of many jumps suitable for competent BMX and mountain-bike riders

Skateboard Park - Under construction

The construction of the Chiltern Skate Park will commence in the 2nd week of March, a month earlier than anticipated, due to some minor changes in the contractors scheduling of other works. Colombera Constructions from Wodonga is the successful contractor that will build the skate park.

The construction of the concrete component of the skate park is expected to take about 6 weeks. Other works, such as landscaping, tree planting and seating will then be completed with the help of the local community and Landcare.

The $85,500 project is funded through $57,000 from a Department of Planning and Community Development grant, $16,400 from Indigo Shire Council and $12,100 from the Chiltern community.

A letter will be distributed to nearby residents and stakeholders letting them know about the earlier start time. The Council is hoping to have an opening event shortly after the completion of the Park.
